On with the dance! let joy be unconfined;
No sleep till morn, when Youth and Pleasure meet
To chase the glowing hours with flying feet.
~George Gordon, Lord Byron, Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage
Life for me is finding the right dance. Find the right steps of the rhythm of life. Sounds a lot easier, than it is (for me it is). If you dance on music you have a beat. Several counts you need to listen or feel and move your body on the right beat. I’m not the best dancer, but I know how to move my hips and feet. You have music and the only thing you need to do is feel it and move your body.
Find the rhythm of life is for me a bit more complicated. There isn’t a easy count like 1-2-3-4 and now move your body or in this case make the right decisions. You need to find your own beat in life. Life would be a lot more easier if there are more signs from above, that makes your decisions easier. During my year at Knowmads I worked on this a lot. Making the right decisions and find the right steps to take.
From the first day at Knowmads I hear this a lot. It already started at the application workshop, when someone told me, that I stepped out of the process. People wondered what I do, when I stopped talking and start staring in front of me. I noticed I do this a lot the last year and I heard it a few times from people I worked with. The reason I do this is, is because I sometimes get lost in the process and I try to get the overview again. This happens during projects, but in my life as well. Stepping out of the moment to get the overview again.
Making the right steps is something I still need to learn. When do I step out, step in, step on or step up. Searching and feeling the right moment to make the right steps in life. When do I step out and how can I tell the people around me, that I’m lost. Overcome the insecurity to actually tell them, that you just don’t get it. Clarify to other people where you are. It’s not always the easiest thing to tell people, you just don’t get it anymore. I’m not someone who likes to ask for help. Maybe it’s a cultural thing or just something I don’t like to do, because I think I can do it myself.
When I do get it, when I do have the overview again I step in. Step in the process, step in the moment to be involved again. Feel the beat of life, so I can continue doing my dance. Feeling the beat again can be more difficult, but I trust the process and I sometimes need to ask for help. Ask people to help me moving the right way.
After stepping in, there is always the moment to step up. Show what you can do, but I need to get more comfortable with that. Feel secure with I can offer and I think I can offer a lot. In a safe environment like Knowmads it’s a lot easier to step up. It’s such a safe environment, that they can give you the security you need to step up and show your moves. Improve you’re skills and show what you got. Dare to make a change and be in the front.
Life for me is finding the right steps in life and at the right moment. Feel the (heart)beat of life to work to the moment, where you step in the circle of dance and show what you got! This process is a process you need to learn by doing it.
Step out – when you loose the beat
Step in – when you feel the rhythm again
Step on – when you feel comfortable
Step up – when you want to bust a move
I’m not a dancer, but I love living my life dancing through life!
