We are down to the wire here at Knowmads for Project Mayhem. What started off with 18 projects but it has now dwindled down to 11.
With the end nearing you can feel the “get ‘r done” energy around Knowmads. Students who aren’t even in Project Mayhem have their noses to the grind stone working on computers, creating video, writing on flip charts, and visually harvesting their own projects.
Knowmadic learning labbers, Idiris, Fatih, and Menderes, were the first to successfully accomplish their project in Project Mayhem. They organized Genclick ve Spor Bayrami, a football and volleyball tournament in Rotterdam, May 18th. The organizing team and the players truly enjoyed themselves. Because it was their first time organizing such an event, they did run into some hiccups like the efficiency of the games. They admit that they lacked experience and know-how in organizing an event like this but it was a huge learning experience for them. The Knowmadic learning labbers had such a fun time that they want to organize another event like this again. For it being their first event, they did have some big victories. For instance they were able to gather 90 people to participate in the tournament which equaled 12 teams with 6 players. And there was many supporters enjoying the games too.
Another project that has finished well before the ending of Project Mayhem is the NS Webshop project. This was a project pitched by Knowmadic Learning Labber, Sander Hoogland, who found the project online. The main objective of the NS Webshop project was to change the website for it to be more appealing to customers. Tribe 5 student, Leonard, was the lone Knowmad to take a stab at this project. He submitted a few cool ideas for the site about not blindly offering a million things to people but filtering the different kinds of customers for all the deals that are broadcasted on the site. Leo will find out in 4-6 weeks if his ideas won him a monetary prize and a chance to see his ideas implemented on the NS Webshop.
So what’s going on with the other projects in Project Mayhem. Read on to find out!
The WTF Prom is selling tickets for their party happening on June 15th. They are working on a partnership with the HVA to connect the WTF Prom with an event happening at the HVA. The organizing team most recently won the Club Air contestso congratulations to them! This was a stint to help with the marketing of their WTF Prom. So come September they will throw another party at Club Air. If you are interested in attending the WTF Prom check out their facebook event page now.
Next up on the events agenda for Project Mayhem is the alternative education project called Education Starts Outside the Classroom. This event is happening next Thursday, June 7th at De Baak in Driebergen. The alternative education team has found 4 speakers who will also give interactive workshops at the event. So if you’re curious to know where education is headed check out the facebook event page for more information about the event.
Following the alternative education event is No Mat Yoga on Museumplein happening Sunday, June 10th at 1pm. It is outside the Project Mayhem window but this was the best date to work with the Amsterdam weather. Their goal is to get 500 people practicing yoga at one time in Amsterdam. They have 55 people attending on their facebook event page so they still have quite a long ways to go to reach their goal. Know of anyone interested in doing yoga outside with a whole bunch of people? Tell them to get their asana over to Museumplein on the 10th!
Project Zcout got a late start in Project Mayhem but have accomplished a mini goal of exploring the forests around Amsterdam to spot great locations for their initiative. We’re excited to see how much further they come along by next week.
A project that is still revving it’s engine is edventure: Frome. The team is working on the website and social media for the organization. They are currently waiting on which logo the organization will pick. The website is still in development but the social media hopes to kick off by the middle of next week, right before Mayhem concludes. This project is sure to continue after all the mayhem. If you want to create new spaces and help a community’s economy grow then check out edventure:Frome happening in England. Their program starts in September if you’re looking for a new way to learn.
Next up on the Project Mayhem list is SPAM Amsterdam. Since the person who pitched the project has been MIA, the students have continued on with their meetings in order to come up with a fun and entertaining street art festival in Amsterdam. During their meetings they have learned about brainstorming sessions as well as how to use chaordic stepping stones. The goal for this team in Project Mayhem is to have a strong proposal written up for the event to show potential partners (a catchy name too) as well as adopting a coach(es) who can help them pull off a huge event like this in Amsterdam at the end of the summer 2012. Are you an artist (or know an artist who may be) and want to showcase your talent to Amsterdam? Then contact Knowmads because this team would love for you to be a part of this event.
Last but not least is the !SYOU project. The !SYOU team has been helping the guys at !SYOU create a website. Spending now 3 whole days on creating a powerful website, the team hopes to see the website go live by the end of Project Mayhem. At first, the Project Mayhem team was going to help !SYOU with their crowdfunding campaign as well but that has been postponed until !SYOU get’s to Columbia. In the meantime the !SYOU guys are working on the website and figuring out how to raise capital for Columbia to create their 2nd shoe prototype so they can continue to bring co-designed shoes to the world. In the meantime we want to give a big congratulations to the !SYOU guys for making it to the final round of the Ben & Jerry’s Join Our Core business competition. They will be heading to Uganda in August for the competition and then will find out if they win $10,000 to put towards their next shoe project in Columbia . Congrats !SYOU!
But wait we have some sad news. Due to the craziness happening during Project Mayhem, the Metro Magazine/Werald Draait Door project has been postponed. We hope that they start back up once there is more time to devote to the project. The Metro team thought it was best to make sure the other projects were going strong instead of producing all mediocre projects. This is a good learning experience and they really do hope to get Knowmads on the front page of the Metro this summer.
The 2 other projects that fizzled were the Pop-Up restaurant and Orange Condom. However, both have possibilities for further action after Project Mayhem.
Well folks, those are the updates for Project Mayhem. There’s one week left and still lots more to do. This coming Friday the entire Project Mayhem team will have a reflection and evaluation workshop to figure out what they learned, what was great, and what could’ve worked better. We’ll make sure you get to hear all the stories. Until then….let the Mayhem continue!!!
