About the Students; what people we want to attract to the school; why we believe in this new educational concept; about our strengths;
About Knowmads:
P A R T I : I N T R O D U C T I O N
If you want to know about all this, then you should read the following texts I copied from the Knowmads Homepage. They have been recently re-written.
I highly recommend reading it if you are thinking about applying or simply want to find out about the school and what believes it’s build upon.
Today and the next four days you will get:
- An Introduction (27.7.10)
- About Learning by Doing (28.7.10)
- About Risk and Reality (29.7.10)
- About The World as a Playground (30.7.10)
- About Joining the School (31.7.10)
We are entering new times and new socio-economic landscapes.
“Modern society is complex and needs people who are able to navigate such complexity. Knowmads belong to a new generation; they are curious and creative young people with the ability to lead, start new businesses and add value-thinking to society’s many agendas.
Knowmads is the school that attracts the creative outsider. Knowmads demand much of themselves and life in general. They are entrepreneurial young adults with their hearts in the right place ; individuals who want to make a positive difference in the world.”

Hey Manuel,
How are you? I hope the whole Knowmads gang is doing awesome. Say hi to Brock, Jord and Pieter for me. I think it’s great that you revisit the basics with this post and the next ones.
Learning by doing is fundamental. Traditional education focuses too much on theoretical, academic content. I can’t read all day about making cookies; I have to actually get my hand burnt at some point! Sir Ken Robinson discusses this issue quite well in his TED talk “School kills creativity”. (Can you believe he’s actually coming to Mexico soon? Yes Manuel, you can envy me.)
By the way, have you ever thought about launching TEDxKnowmads?
Best,
M

Hey Marco,
I guess the ‘Knowmads Gang’ is all fine, we are hopefully all enjoying our three week holiday break. We will start of again next Monday, then I can deliver your greets in case they did not read your comment yet.
I thought it would be nice to give a ‘basic update’ during the holidays. Fits as well, also since we just had the intake of ‘Tribe II’ and they are ready to start in September.
And then thank you for pointing out to the TED talk from Sir Ken Robinson.
Launching Knowmads TED? Good question. I think it was, maybe still is in the air.
Chantal, Sebastiaan and me are also discussing how a school or business could be entirely ‘open source’.
greets,
m.
